Preaching Workshops

Purpose

CHM Preaching Workshops are designed to help pastors grow spiritually and be refreshed through genuine biblical fellowship, to guide them through the challenges of preaching a particular portion of Scripture, to help them grow in their ability to handle the Word of God responsibly, and to assist them in discerning what God is saying to the church today through His Word. CHM Preaching Workshops are neither “conferences” nor “retreats”; they are “workshops.” Participants should come prepared to use the workshop as an opportunity of devote roughly 21 hours of their time to taking a giant step forward in preparing their next sermon series. We are confident that the time invested in the preaching workshop will pay off many times over in the time pastors save in future sermon preparation.

Approach

Each Preaching Workshop will be guided by a pastor-scholar who understands both the challenges that pastors face in the church today and is an exegetical expert. Participants are not required to have mastery or even knowledge of Hebrew and Greek to attend the workshops; participants will be introduced to insights from the original languages in a manner accessible to all. The Preaching Workshops consist of 10 sessions totaling about 18.5 hours of careful study of the biblical text. Participants will also have the opportunity to begin constructing sermon outlines in two 90-minute sessions, and will have time available in the evenings to work on sermon preparation if they choose to. Each day will also include times for corporate prayer, coffee and snack breaks, meals, and fellowship.

Registration

Preaching Workshops are open to men (see our statement on Gender Roles at the bottom of OUR BELIEFS) who are currently involved in preaching ministry or training for such ministry. The minimum donation we require to register for our Preaching Workshops at Cypress Hills Camp is $350 (includes all sessions, all meals, coffee breaks, and notes) for workshops held at Cypress Hills Camp. Please note that workshops held elsewhere will likely require a different minimum donation.

Bible Conferences

Purpose

CHM Bible conferences provide an opportunity to study a book of the Bible or portion of a larger book in more depth than you would typically find outside of a Bible College or Seminary context. The purpose of our Bible Conferences is to build you up in your faith as we feed deeply on God’s Word together. Whether you are a new Christian or have been following the Lord for 50 years, we are confident that you will grow in your relationship with the Lord and become better equipped to serve Him.

Approach

Each Bible Conference will be guided by a pastor-scholar who is committed to helping participants understand God’s Word more fully and to wrestle with how it applies to their life today. The Bible Conference will consist of 9 hours of instruction, along with times for prayer, coffee and snack breaks, fellowship meals, and a concluding time of worship.

Typical Schedule

Guests are encouraged to arrive on Thursday and enjoy some quiet time in this beautiful context before the conference begins on Friday. Accommodations will be available for both Thursday and Friday nights at Cypress Hills Camp or The Resort at Cypress Hills for those who would like to come early. Early arrivers will be responsible for their own meals on Thursday, but are invited to a self-serve breakfast on Friday morning (7:30-8:30am) at Cypress Hills Camp.

Teaching Workshops

Purpose

The goal of CHM’s Teaching Workshops is to equip Bible teachers who minister to Christians of all ages. Whether you teach young children, teens, young adults, men or women, these workshops will help you learn how to take God’s Word and communicate it to those entrusted to your care in a way that God can use to bring about life transformation.

Approach

Each Teaching Workshop will be guided by a pastor-scholar who understands both the challenges that Bible teachers face today and is an exegetical expert. The pastor-scholar will guide participants through a biblical book in a manner that is spiritually enriching and accessible to any educated adult. The Teaching Workshops can be compared to a condensed Bible College or seminary course with the important difference that the goal is not to understand what a wide range of scholars have said about the Bible, but rather to help participants learn to identify what the biblical text means for Christians today by first learning what it would have meant to the original readers.

Women Mentoring Women

Purpose

The purpose of CHM’s Women Mentoring Women Workshops is to provide support for spiritually mature older women as they serve the Body of Christ by mentoring younger women following Titus 2:3-5. Workshop participants will be taken deep into God’s Word, where together they will gain

  • a biblical understanding of the role God wants spiritually mature older women to play in the lives of younger women
  • a more thorough grasp of the importance and relevance of Scripture for all aspects of life
  • a clear picture of what qualifies some older women for the role of mentor
  • a well-defined sense of what older women are to call younger women to be and to do
  • a broad exposure to various approaches and ideas for serving as a biblical mentor of younger women

Approach

Women Mentoring Women Workshops are led by an experienced mentor with a deep understanding of God’s Word. The workshops consist of 12 sessions (about 16 hours) that combine extensive biblical teaching with practical exercises designed to facilitate interaction with the material and encourage women to process, internalize, and review key concepts. Women will enjoy the fellowship that is only possible in the body of Christ through participation in prayer times, tea and snack breaks, meals, and group assignments. Participants will be asked to do limited preparatory work prior to the workshop as well as some individual and group assignments each day. Come expecting to leave better equipped.

Registration

Women Mentoring Women Workshops are open to older women who have been followers of Christ for many years and desire to be better equipped for mentoring younger women. The minimum donation required to register for these workshops is $260 (includes all sessions, all meals, tea breaks, and notes). Please note that workshops held elsewhere will likely require a different minimum donation.
